Wishaw and District Housing Association
It's a good life being a tenant of Wishaw and District Housing Association, according to the tenants. Of tenants, 93% have declared themselves satisfied or very satisfied with their landlord, and only 2% indicated any level of dissatisfaction.
The Association offers affordable rented and shared ownership houses which meet the Scottish Housing Quality Standard requirements, and they have a whole raft of services and benefits for tenants.
These include:
- houses kept to the highest standard through regular cyclical and planned maintenance;
- provision of services that people need and want;
- helping the communities in which tenants live;
- welcome pack of necessary household goods when moving to a new home;
- financial rewards for tenants who pay rent on time;
- financial incentive to open a bank account with the Credit Union;
- help to manage household budgets.
- assistance in maximising benefit claims
- assistance for people with disabilities to have their house adapted for their needs.
Established in 1978, Wishaw and District Housing Association is now a registered charity owning over 1000 new build and renovated flats and houses in Wishaw and the surrounding areas including Flemington, Muirhouse, Netherton, Craigneuk, Coltness, Cambusnethan, Newmains, Shotts, and Harthill. The Association also provides a factoring service for around 500 owners attached to their housing estates.
The Association lets houses through the North Lanarkshire Common Housing Register and through a 25 per cent nominations agreement with the local authority.
Their role in life is "strengthening communities through affordable housing". The aim is not just to build and maintain houses but to support the communities in which these houses are located. This can be through enhancement initiatives and working in partnership with other agencies to ensure the best specialist support.
The Association is governed by a voluntary Board of twelve directors recruited from the local community and North Lanarkshire Council has also appointed a representative to serve on the Board.
