Our Mission Statement

"To provide high quality, affordable housing in our community and to endeavour to alleviate poverty through our housing and associated activities."

The Association first met as the Rutherglen Housing Action Group in 1979. The group was concerned with the deterioration of the housing in the centre of Rutherglen and the lack of any concerted effort to prevent this. The Group was registered with the Housing Corporation (now Communities Scotland) as Rutherglen Housing Association in 1980 and then set about the task of improving the 641 properties that had been identified as being below the tolerable standard. The Association's activities have also extended to improving and managing stock in the Circuit Estate in Cambuslang and Hallside Village. The Association has invested £40M in the community since its inception.

We have an ongoing development programme of £2- £3M per annum providing housing for rent and for special needs in the Rutherglen/Cambuslang area.

The Association now rents almost 700 properties in Rutherglen and Cambuslang and provide factoring services for a further 420 privately owned houses and 55 shops. We operate an open waiting list and allocations are made on the basis of housing need.

The Association is run by a voluntary management committee, which is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting of its shareholders. Anyone who lives within the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area can become a shareholder although the Association places particular emphasis on the involvement of tenants in managing its affairs.

We have a subsidiary company, the Aspire Community Development Company, to implement our wider role activities. The company has recently completed the Aspire Business Centre, which will create 100 jobs in the community.
