East Kilbride and District Housing Association

East Kilbride and District Logo

Formed in 1994 East Kilbride and District Housing Association arose out of the concern of local people at the rapid decline in social housing for rent in the new town due to the impact of Right to Buy legislation.

The Association’s Management Committee is made up of a cross section of local people including tenants, owner occupiers and professional people committed to ensuring that a wide range of socially rented housing to meet people’s needs is locally available.

In 1994-1995 a total of 325 houses and flats were transferred to the Association from the Development Corporation prior to its winding up. 195 of these were new build homes and 130 were older properties transferred individually as they became vacant. In 1995 we embarked on a substantial ongoing improvement programme designed to ensure that all of our tenants have safe, secure and well insulated homes which meet as a minimum the Scottish Housing Quality Standard.

A further 118 properties have been developed or acquired since 1999 with a further 52 on-site and due for completion in 2011. We also work in partnership with a number of voluntary and statutory agencies to provide accommodation with support for people with particular needs.

The Association’s Aim is to:

improve the quality of life and serve the needs of local people in East Kilbride and surrounding areas by providing high quality social rented housing and related services, and by assisting them in sustaining and strengthening their communities.

The Association’s Objectives are to:
