Abronhill Housing Association

Abronhill Housing Association is a community based organisation, founded by members of the Community Council in response to the winding up of the New Town’s Development Corporation.
In 1995 the first tenants transferred to the Association which now owns or manages 240 flats and houses in Abronhill. Three-quarters of Cumbernauld’s homes have been sold to their occupiers and the Management Committee were keen to keep property in the social rented sector so that some well managed and affordable properties were available to let for those people who, for a variety of reasons, are not in a position to buy.
The Association was registered with Scottish Homes in 1993 and gained approved landlord status five years later to give council tenants the opportunity to transfer to the Association. It is run by a Management Committee of 15 local people, two-thirds of whom are tenants of the Association. The Committee includes one local Councillor.
The Association’s aims are:
- To create a dynamic local housing organisation accountable to Abronhill residents.
- To manage and maintain rental housing to a high standard.
- To ensure financial viability and cost effective services.
- To contribute to meeting existing and future housing needs in the community.
- To foster the interests of the wider community.
